Q Square Shopping Center

Taipei, Taiwan

Situated next to the scheduled site of the Gate of Taipei and forecast to be open for business as Taipei’s largest department store around winter 2009/spring 2010. In addition to planning for the common spaces in the department store, each section dedicated to a different product type had to be designed differently according to the requirements of that product type, and the overall design seeks to take commercial spaces in Taiwan to the next stage.

PYE Concept Store

China

PYE is a retail chain owned by Hong Kong’s Esquel Group. Esquel began as the world’s largest industrial manufacturer of shirts, and then branched out into their own brand of Western-style men’s shirts which incorporate elements of Chinese design, presenting a distinctive Chinese take on the Western formal wear. In 2007, they were seeking to expand their retail presence in the Chinese market by establishing stores in China’s main cities.http://www.esquel.com/en/

Ta Chong Bank VIP Finance Center

Taipei, Taiwan

For this project to design a VIP finance center for Ta Chong Bank, the client wanted the space redesigned in a Japanese style. Building on the basic rectangular shape of the space and its use, I divided it into three areas. To work with the rectangular nature of the space, I incorporated a Japanese-style angawa (an element of traditional Japanese architecture where the ceiling extends outdoors to create an outdoor space), with regularly spaced columns supporting an outer portion of the ceiling and a scenic space intersecting with the main area using black mirrors and stones to create a pond-like effect. Overall, this design attempts to incorporate a Japanese design vocabulary into a modern space.
