National Concert Hall

Taipei, Taiwan

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the National Concert Hall and National Theater, the lobbies of the two were renovated, with French botanist Patrick Blanc invited to work with us on the new design. Inside each lobby we set up an 8.2m by 8.2m “vertical garden,” which symbolizes modern society’s concern with environmental protection and green energy, while also integrating natural elements with cultural and artistic performance, setting the direction for the halls’ next 20 years.

Tsz Shan Monastery

Tai Po, Hong-Kong

With the changes and developments in Chinese traditional faith in recent centuries, the design  and structure of places of worship have also undergone several changes. Temples and monasteries in the Greater China area and Korea tend to be more like those built during the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties in terms of form, materials, proportions, and layout, becoming less like those of the early Tang (618-907) dynasty. The primary motif of this project to adapt modern materials and structure to more Tang-oriented aesthetics and proportions.

Ting-Yun Café –
National Palace Museum

Taipei, Taiwan

While the top floor of the National Palace Museum includes a traditional Chinese style teahouse—San-Hsi-T’ang—on a scrap of space near the second-floor exhibition area exit the museum wanted a small coffeehouse where visitors could enjoy a snack or something to drink. This also addresses the problem of vacant space on the second floor and improves the efficiency of space used in the museum.
